Drag text to the Apple Mail icon

Apple MailI previously explained how to drag-and-drop file attachments to trigger a new Apple Mail message. But did you know you could do the same thing with text? It’s easy. Here’s how.

The next time you run across an interesting article on the Web and wish to share a pertinent paragraph or two with a friend or colleague – then try this. Simply highlight the text in Safari and drag-and-drop it right on the Apple Mail icon on your dock. This opens a new Mail message and inserts your text.

You can drag text from various sources to the Mail icon. This works not only in Safari but with text in a Microsoft Word document or even a PDF shown in the Preview application.
