Easy access to Character Palette favorites

The Character Palette is used to insert special characters in Mac OS X documents. This handy core service includes numerous glyphs, dingbats, accented letters, mathematical symbols and much more. You probably have a handful of special characters that you use often. Would you like quick access to your favorite special characters? Here’s how.
Applications that are designed for Mac OS X will include access to the Character Palette under but you may wish to enable the Input Menu among your menulets.
enable the input menu
To do this, go to and select the tab. Make sure the checkbox next to Character Palette is checked. If the checkbox near the bottom, labeled , is not automatically checked, then check it, too.
You should now see the Input Menu menulet in the upper right on the menu bar – it looks like a little flag. Now click the flag and select .
saving your favorite special characters
Navigate the categories in the left pane and select a frequently used special character. Then click the Action button near the bottom (it looks like a little gear) and choose . Repeat for all your frequently used special characters.

Now when you need to insert a special character into a document, simply click the (the flag menulet) and open the Character Palette. You’ll find all your favorite special characters in one place under the tab. You can use the Action button to add or remove special character favorites.
