Summer 2001 | Graphite

The Summer 2001 series replaces the Early 2001 iMac models released just 5 months prior.

This mid-range model gained 100MHz over the low-end, as well as a doubling of memory from 128MB to 256MB and a doubling of hard drive capacity from 20GB to 40GB.

The entire series came Airport ready and all included a VGA output port, FireWire support, the Apple Pro Keyboard and Apple Pro Mouse and the ATI Rage 128 Ultra graphics controller with 16MB SDRAM. Unfortunately, a DVD-ROM drive was still not standard in this series.

Snow had been available only as a Special Edition the previous year but this model was available in both Graphite and Snow.

Other iMacs in this series include the 500MHz base models in Snow and Indigo, and the 700MHz Special Editions, which were also offered in Graphite and Snow.

Every model in the Summer 2001 lineup could be had in the color Snow, highlighting the importance of this color. It was a harbinger of things to come.

The Summer 2001 series would be the last of the all-in-one half-egg shaped iMacs. In roughly six months, an entirely new design would surface with the debut of the Flat Panel iMac with floating display.
