iPhone OS v3.0 arriving this summer

Apple recently previewed the upcoming iPhone operating system and made the iPhone OS 3.0 beta and updated iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) available to iPhone developers. Here are some of the features iPhone owners and developers can expect.

Apple claims the new iPhone OS v3.0 will be available this summer and will offer over 100 new features and tweaks. Some are long sought features like search and cut/copy/paste – yay!

The updated iPhone OS v3.0 includes:

• Search your iPhone
• Cut, copy, and paste
• Send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS
• Read and compose email and text messages in landscape

Those in the iPhone Developer Program now have access to both the iPhone OS 3.0 beta and the updated iPhone SDK. Apple claims there are over 1,000 new APIs to help developers create more powerful and innovative iPhone applications.

The updated iPhone SDK includes:

• Enable In-App purchases
• Peer-to-Peer connectivity
• Multi-player capabilities
• Allow apps to connect to hardware accessories
• Use the Apple Push Notification service for alerts
• Directly access media in a user’s iPod library
