See those little icons located at the upper right of your screen on your main menu? Apple calls these but Mac users generally refer to them as . Mac OS X loads a few menulets by default, such as Clock, Volume, TimeMachine, Bluetooth and AirPort. But did you know you could add, remove or rearrange your menulets however you wish? Here’s how.
how to add menulets
Apple provides Mac users with over two dozen handy menulets. Go to your main hard drive (in my case, that’s Macintosh HD) and select . The menulet names should give you an indication of their intended function. Double clicking a menulet will automatically add that menulet to the main menu.
how to arrange menulets
Mac OS X makes it easy to arrange menulets in any order you prefer. Simply hold down the Command key and your mouse button and drag a menulet to a new position. The other Menu Extras will scoot out of the way as you drag. Release the mouse button to drop the menulet in its new position.
how to remove menulets
Removing menulets is just as easy. Hold down the Command key and drag the menulet off the menu, just as you would a Dock icon off the Dock. You’ll be treated to the same “poof” effect and the menulet will disappear.
I like to keep the Eject and iChat menulets on my menu bar for handy access but you may have other needs.
