Are you experiencing slow Internet? It could be due to slow DNS servers. Try the free utility to seek out the best performing public DNS server for your Mac. Namebench runs on Mac OS X, Unix and Windows and the benchmark results are nicely displayed using the Google Chart API.
Your Internet Service Provider may not be providing you with the most reliable or fastest DNS service. For example, the primary DNS servers of my own ISP performed 6% faster than the test DNS servers. Yet was able to provide a list of much better performing DNS servers to a friend of mine located 2 hours away with a different ISP.
So if you’re having Internet speed issues — use the nifty utility to troubleshoot your DNS servers. A heartfelt “Thank You” to Thomas Stromberg and other contributors to the open-source DNS benchmark utility. Nice job.
