Record video or audio iChat sessions

Record iChat SessionThe iChat application is an outstanding communications tool. You probably know you can save a text chat transcript but have you ever wished you could save a video or audio chat for replay later? With Mac OS X Leopard, you can. Here’s how to record your next video or audio iChat session.

First, initiate a video or audio chat with a buddy and select Video → Record Chat from the iChat menu. Chat participants will be notified with a dialog window asking their permission to allow the recording.

When they agree by clicking the Allow button, the recording will begin and a red recording indicator will appear in the upper right of the video chat window.

To end the recording, simply end the chat session or select Video → Stop Recording from the menu. Mac OS X Leopard will save your recorded sessions in the Documents/iChat folder.

The video chats will be saved as MPEG-4 files and the audio chats as AAC files. So you can import your recorded video chat to iMovie or play them in iTunes or the QuickTime Player.
