Replace the Marker Felt font in iPhone Notes

iPhone Notes ApplicationNot a fan of the cheesy Marker Felt font used by the iPhone Notes application? Neither am I – but I don’t wish to jailbreak my iPhone or replace core font files. This workaround won’t convert your existing iPhone Notes but it will substitute the Helvetica font for all new or edited iPhone Notes. Here’s how.

Tap Settings and go to General → Keyboard → International Keyboards. Tap Japanese and enable QWERTY from the submenu. Now open the iPhone Notes application and create a new Note.

iPhone International KeyboardWhen using multiple language keyboards, the virtual keyboard displays a Globe key to the left of the spacebar. Tap the Globe to switch to Japanese, then type a single letter and tap the Globe again to switch back to English.

You may now finish typing your iPhone Note in Helvetica. Yes, you’ll need to get in the habit of using the Globe key before editing or creating new Notes – but for many, this will still be preferable to jailbreaking or settling for the Marker Felt font.

This works for my English (US) iPhone v2.2.1 5H11.
