Resize the Dock with your mouse

Dock divider lineMost Mac users are aware that the size of the Dock can be adjusted by using the Dock Size slider in the Dock preferences. But did you know you could use your mouse to quickly enlarge or shrink the Dock right on the desktop? Here’s how.

First, for those readers who are new to Mac OS X, you can go to Apple Menu → Dock → Dock Preferences to adjust not only the Dock size but also Dock magnification, Dock position, the Dock minimize effect and more. But if all you wish to do is make the Dock larger or smaller, then try this instead.

Hover your mouse cursor over the Dock’s divider line and the mouse pointer will change to a two-headed vertical arrow (the “Move up or down” cursor). If you weren’t aware, the Dock divider line is that light colored dotted line that “divides” the applications from the other items on the Dock.

While the mouse pointer is the double-headed arrow, simply Click and Hold and move your mouse up or down to increase or decrease the size of the Dock.
