Set Safari 4 Beta Top Sites as default window, tab and home page

Safari 4 Beta PreferencesI spoke about Top Sites in the Safari 4 Beta earlier and even explained how to disable this feature. But to discover if I genuinely find Top Sites useful or not, I’m immersing myself by setting Top Sites as the default page when I open a new window or new tab – and as the default browser home page. Here’s how.

To set the default for new windows and tabs – open Safari preferences by starting the Safari browser and pressing Command+, (that’s Command and comma). Select the General tab and you’ll see two options named New windows open with and New tabs open with. Set both options to Top Sites.

To set the Safari default home page to Top Sites, type topsites: in the Home page field. Don’t forget to include the appended colon, as shown.
