TextEdit offers word suggestions

TextEdit has a built-in spell checker but it also includes a neat feature to help you quickly see the correct spelling or alternate forms of a word. The next time you’re stuck on how a spell a word or would like help with word suggestions, try this.

Type in a few letters and press the Escape key. A pop-up menu will display a scrollable list of choices based on the letters you typed in. If you see word you prefer, click it to insert it into your document.

Or instead of typing in a partial word, position your cursor at the end of a complete word and press Escape to see alternative forms of the word.
