Turn on the Path Bar option in Finder

View Path Bar The Finder makes it easy to delve deeply into the nested folders of your Mac OS X system. So easy in fact, that you may forget where you are at times. Thankfully, the Finder has an option to turn on a nifty visual cue and navigation feature called the Path Bar. Here’s how.

With the Finder active, select View → Show Path Bar to toggle on a navigational strip at the bottom of the Finder Window. This strip includes a breadcrumb feature showing all the folder levels in your path, including their icons.

This is not only an instant reminder of where you are within the folder hierarchy of your Mac but double clicking any folder in the path will take you directly to that level.

You can toggle the Finder Path Bar on or off by selecting View → Show Path Bar and View → Hide Path Bar but you may wish to leave this helpful feature turned on.
